Refuge The Buddha advises to take refuge to something that is absolute and impermanent. When we investigate this more closely the only refuge is our own mind.

There are different levels of refuge however:

  • The outer level: Buddha, the teachings and the practitioners
  • The inner level: teachers, the different Buddha-aspects and the protectors
  • The secret level: experience of the truth, joy and emanation state
Rinpoche Literally, "Precious One." A title reserved properly for incarnate lamas and eminent spiritual teachers. It is used as both a term of address, and as the last element of the name.
Root Lama A teacher from whom one has received the Link-Refempowerments, instructions, and precepts that form the core of one's own practice.
